Tip of the Day: In Microsoft D365 Finance and Supply Change (D365 F&SC), when setting up value added tax (VAT) this one error trips me up because the setup has to be completed in a specific sequence. See the steps below to see how to correct the Error: The legal entity’s Tax registration (VAT ID) can’t be empty.

Error: The legal entity’s Tax registration (VAT ID) can’t be empty. Check the master data settings in the Registration IDs of the legal entity and/or in Tax authority and Sales tax settlement period.
Solution: To fix the tax error setup the Registration types, the Registration categories, add the VAT to the Legal Entity Address, the Sales tax settlement authority, and the Sales tax settlement period.
Add an address for each of the countries > add the VAT Registration Number to each address.
**Note: The Primary for Country/Region field must be set to YES or you will not be able to add the Tax Registration Number. . .on the Vendor Address and on the Legal Entity Address
